Tear Saver helps patients with Dry Eyes

At Oakland Vision Center Optometry, an integral part of Inflammatory Dry Eye Syndrome treatment is a procedure called Tear Saver.

The Tear Saver serves 2 purposes:

1) As you are increasing your tear quantity with Restasis, Tear Saver will help your eyes feel more moist; and

2)It will help the Restasis and Xibrom eyedrops absorb into the tissues of the eye rather than just drain down the nose.

The doctor will insert a microscopic plug into the drainage canal that connects the eye to the nose. Please see the picture below.

Tear Saver is an invisible, painless procedure that takes less than 5 minutes.

The procedure is performed after artificial tears have been tried (and failed) and usually after 8 weeks of therapy on Restasis and Xibrom eyedrops.

The Tear Saver is made of a material very similar to surgical grade sutures. It slowly and safely dissolves in about 3-6 months.

Ask your doctor about Tear Saver. It's easy, safe and works!
